Where’s a good place to build a town?
Have you ever thought about that before?
I hadn’t either, until this weekend.
The answer is interesting.
And maybe it’ll give you an idea for improving your English…
PISEK MEETUP
Another successful Vig Village meetup is over!
If you don’t know what Vig Village is, it’s my community for adults who want to practice speaking English.
Members can practice English in relaxed conversations any day and any time by joining a Zoom room online.
And a few times a year, I invite members to join an in-person weekend meetup.
This year we had meetups in Riga, Prague, Varna, Malta and last weekend, in Pisek, Czech Republic.
We explored the city, took some tours with private guides, bowled, had a wine tasting and got some beauty treatments (not me).
RIVER OF GOLD
One interesting fact I learned on our walking tour was that “Pisek” means “sand.”
And why did they name the town “sand”?
Because the sand in the river wasn’t ordinary sand, it had gold in it!
And of course, the town became rich.
The gold paid for a castle, walls, a big church, a beautiful monastery and the oldest surviving stone bridge in the country.
What a great place to build your city – next to a river of gold!
When they did that, success became inevitable.
I have a theory about this…
While we all want success, most of us focus on things that aren’t that important, or we focus on the wrong things entirely, like buying the right book or course or learning more rules or waking up early or downloading the latest app.
But sometimes, to be successful, all you have to do is change your environment.
That’s one of the Big Ideas behind Vig Village.
When you get a passport to this virtual village, you spend time in a new place with new people.
And because the common language is English, you are forced to practice, and your English improves weekly, maybe daily.
All you have to do is change your environment.
And your English, like a city next to a river of gold, will be a big success.

I hope to join you for a explore Prague’s towns.
