I’m home for the holidays!
On the plane, they wished us “Seasons Greetings.”
If you haven’t noticed, in the US and much of the West, there’s a war on the word “Christmas.”
But here at Atomic Homework, if it’s Friday, we say “Friday.”
And if it’s Christmas, we say “Christmas.”
But I just said “home for the holidays”…!
Why?
Because it has a nice ring to it, wouldn’t you say?
TMI (TOO MUCH INFORMATION)
When I return to the U.S., one thing that always surprises me is how chatty restaurant waitstaff are.
For example, last night my dad and two of my nieces and I went out for dinner.
The waiter – right before presenting us with the bill – gave us his life story.
He’s from the area… a few years ago he moved to South Carolina to work in a friend’s carpet cleaning business… but it was too dangerous down there…. plus, his father has health problems…. so he moved back to take care of his dad… oh, and he has a roommate and they live down the hill from the restaurant.
All that information during one meal!
There are some people in Prague I’ve known for years and I still don’t know the first thing about them.
YOUR ENGLISH PERSONALITY
On Friday, I asked you, Who are you when you speak English?
Does your personality change?
The most popular answer I got: “I’m more easy-going.”
Well, I had the opportunity to speak French on the plane.
And my personality changed!
I’ll tell you about that tomorrow.

If you wonder why there are some people in Prague you know about years and still don’t know the first thing about, well , many years of communism people were scared and rather they didn’ t show their real personality and thoughts, meanwhile in US it was a democratic society that encouraged people to speak and be free.I think is about the communism shadow..
This form of communication is very common in my country. People like to talk about their lives or whatever relates to them, their children, their money problems, their plans. Some people are alone, but most of them just want everyone to know their story. It is very complicated to talk about the weather, or some other neutral topic (what’s going on with the bus, or similar).
