We’ve all had bad days.
Maybe even bad weeks, months and years.
But have you ever known someone who hit rock bottom?
I hadn’t, until recently…
ROCK BOTTOM IN BALTIMORE
Last summer, when I went back to the U.S., I caught up with one of my friends from Baltimore.
We met for the weekend in Pennsylvania and went rafting.
As we were floating down the river, I asked him about someone in Baltimore we both knew.
“I haven’t heard from him for a while. How’s he doing?” I asked.
The short answer: not good.
He started doing drugs.
And I’m not talking about marijuana; if you want to ruin your life with chemicals, Baltimore provides many options.
He then started stealing from his office.
Of course, he was fired.
Next, he was evicted from his apartment.
And the last time my friend had heard, he was living in a parking garage – during the winter!
Things were bad.
Then they got worse.
He hit rock bottom.

Catch up/caught up is also good modal verb as these with hit!
Actually phrasal verb😅 but usually constructions with adverbs…
