I’m a college kid again!
At least that’s what it feels like.
One part of the Nomad Fest is the morning lectures.
That means, every morning, I get to sit in an auditorium, drink coffee, and learn about interesting topics, just like I did when I was in college.
And what if I decide to sleep late and skip the lectures?
Then it feels even more like college!
A BETTER WAY TO BREAK THE ICE
Here’s something I learned yesterday.
Or rather, something I was reminded of.
The lecture topic was on how to organize social events.
And the speaker gave us a tip for starting conversations.
“Don’t start with the usual questions,” he said.
“Where are you from?”
“What do you do?”
“Lovely weather we’re having.”
Those are ok.
But what kind of answers will you get?
Will you get interesting answers?
Will the answers start an interesting conversation?
And most importantly, will they create a friendship?
Probably not.
Instead, he asks people, “What are you working on?”
(A good alternative is, “What are you excited about?“)
Ask that to the next person you meet and see what kind of conversation follows.
First, they’ll think you’re interesting.
Next, they’ll focus on the positive.
Then they’ll have positive emotions.
They’ll connect those good feelings with you.
You’ll make a positive, lasting impression.
And perhaps, a new friend!
Cheers,
Mr. Vig
