“What should I do?”
That was the question I asked you on Friday.
About 20 friends were scheduled to come over to my apartment for a party.
But I was feeling a cold coming on and was worried about getting them sick.
In the end, I started to feel better, and I still wasn’t coughing or sneezing, so I decided to go through with it.
Plus, I reckoned if my friends got sick and died, I could always get new friends, right?
THE PARTY
7:20 PM.
Friday night.
“Where is everyone?” I wondered.
Only two people had arrived.
“Do you reckon they’ll show up later?” I asked a friend.
Eventually, ten more did show up. But here’s what I learned…
There’s a virus going around town.
Many of my friends had already caught it and recovered.
Others were at home because they had not yet recovered.
Ha!
And I was worried because I thought I was special!
I thought I was the first to get the virus.
Patient zero, as we say in English.
I thought maybe a bat had sneezed on me when I was wandering through Dracula’s castle the previous weekend.
But no, my virus was not special.
I was not the first to get it: I was one of the last.
And I was not special.
But if my friends do die, I’m sure they’ll always remember my party.
Cheers,
Mr. Vig
