Thailand is a great place to live.
Especially if you’ve got a job that pays you dollars or Euros.
Walking around Bangkok and the islands, you see many white faces.
You even see many Asian faces that don’t look Thai.
But it wasn’t always like this.
There was a time when Thailand was called “Siam.”
It took 3-5 days to fly here from New York.
There was no air-conditioning.
And there was only one expat.
He was an American who worked for the CIA.
Then he started a business and got rich.
Then he disappeared.
Many theories emerged.
One said that a foreign government had kidnapped him.
One said that a business rival had killed him.
Another said that he was tired of his life and decided to start over under a new identity.
Even today, nobody knows what really happened to him.
It’s a fascinating story not many people know.
I just read a biography on him.
And today I’m going to visit his house, which is now a museum.
Would you like to hear that story?
Cheers,
Mr. Vig
