On Sunday, I went to a hotel to use their pool.
Before entering, I wanted to know the rules.
Maybe things are different here in Bulgaria.
For example…
Can I give my pet gorilla a bath?
Can I bring my lawyer in case I feel like suing someone?
And most importantly, if someone’s child is annoying me, can I throw him or her into the deep end of the pool?
Here’s the sign at the entrance to the pool:

What do you think?
What can I do at the pool?
What can I not do?
And do you see the mistake?
I know I always say, “Don’t worry about your mistakes.”
But this is a CATEGORY THREE mistake!
Let me know in the comments.
And tomorrow, I’ll tell you what a category three mistake is and how you can avoid them.
Cheers,
Mr. Vig
P.S.
Here’s a crazy idea…
While your friends and family and colleagues spend the summer kicking back and soaking up the sun…
You get serious about your English!
Then, in September, you can impress everyone with your new confidence, big words, and easy sentences.
Here are two ways to improve your English this summer:
- Join the Vig Village waiting list (we’re re-opening soon).
- Get a private teacher on Teacher Creature.
Hello Mr Vig. I think the mistakes are:
Pets are not allowed.
Before the pool, be sure to use the shower or Please shower, before entering the pool.
Thank you.
Maybe:
Pets are not allowed.
Before you dive in the pooll , be sure you use the shower
The staff of the pool is not responsible for any injuries
You can’t take your pet with you in the pool.
You should take a shower before entering the swimming pool.
The pool stuff is not responsible for injuries caused by the fault of you.
No pets allowed!
Use shower before entering the pool!
Representatives can’t be held responsible for injuries and accidents caused by carelessness of visitors.
Rules are rules.
Bulgaria is a special country.
“Yes is no” and “no is yes”.
Maybe it´ll be better to give the bath just to plastic pets.
The lawyer needs the holiday too.
Children like to be throw into the deep end of the pool, he could enjoy it and ask to you repeat it.
Mistakes:
Before fail and the pool, be sure to use the shower! could be:
Please shower before entering the pool.
The staff at the pool is not responsible for injuries and accidents caused by the fault of the visitor. could be:
The pool staff are not responsible for injuries or accidents caused by visitors’ own negligence.
Maybe bulgarian sign is translation from local language.
Have a great summer in Vig Village!
If I understand correctly this text, the fail is just failure of something. In my opinion the better text could be… Please use the shower before entering the pool. And the staff of the pool is not responsible for your injuries and accidents due to yourself.
Of course, it is fair enough to comment on English-label mistakes wherever you are and wherever you travel. Usually in the Czech Republic, sometimes in other countries, distant or closer, for instance, in Bulgaria now. And language mistakes are what make the work of language teachers valuable, aren’t they?
The first sign means: Pets are not allowed, so if you have a gorilla pet, don’t bring it with you to the pool.
The second sentence is incomprehensible, but I think it means: Remember to take a shower before you get in the pool.
My message went away before I wrote the 3 sentence, which could be: The swimming pool staff is not liable for injuries or accidents caused by the visitors themselves.
Hello,
I think, because that are the rules, the sentences have to be in imperative or passive.
No pets allowed.
Please shower before entering the pool.
The staff is not responsible for accidents or injuries.
Instead of FAIL it should be written WALK IN, or DROP IN, or JUMP IN, or ENTERING, or similar.
“Before fail and the pool, be sure to use the shower.”
Ehee, I believe, that they want write: “Before feil and the pool, be sure to use the shower.”
I don’t know, but maybe better is: “Be sure to shower before going into the pool.”
I would have written:
Pets are not allowed
Before entering the pool, make sure to take a shower
The pool’s staff is not responsable about injuries and accidents
Hello Ryan,
I think the first sentence is correct « no pets are allowed »
But for me after before verb + ing, and I am not sure “fail” is the good using. My sentence wiil be “please, before entering the pool, take shower”
After that the last sentence can be simplified and better understanding: the pool staff is not responsible for injuries or accidents caused by visitors” I used “or” instead of “and” because it’s one of the other but not the both together.
Pets are not allowed.
Please shower before entering the pool.
The pool staff is not responsible for accidents or injuries due to personal inappropriate behaviors.
Probably:
Pets are not allowed.
Please, take a shower before entering the pool.
Management of the swimming pool is not responsible for injuries or accidents caused by visitors.
[…] Yesterday, I asked you to look at a sign and guess the mistake. […]
