Want a good conversation tip?
Don’t hog the conversation.
That’s the advice I gave Vig Village members in Saturday night’s chat room.
But the reply was not what I expected…
A NEW DISCOVERY
You already know textbook words, right?
I’m talking about the words for vegetables, clothes, transportation, months and days, etc.
And you’re working on mastering the Atomic Words – the 2,800 most common words in the English language.
But when the Vig Village members on Saturday night told me they didn’t know the word “hog” I was surprised.
Because now I see that there’s another category of words….
FORGOTTEN CONVERSATION WORDS
These are words every native speaker knows.
Every native speaker uses.
But they’re not in your textbooks.
And they’re not in your Atomic Word Dictionary.
They’ve been forgotten!
So this week, I’ll teach you five of these forgotten words which you can start using in conversation immediately to sound more like a native speaker.
We’ll start with…
HOG
Do you like bacon?
What’s the animal called?
A pig, right?
Well, you can also say, “hog.”
And have you ever seen hogs eat?
Do they like to share?
They do not.
So if you hog something….
Hog the remote control…
Hog the couch….
Hog the conversation….
You keep it all to yourself and don’t share.
Here’s a headline from sports news:
“Kobe Bryant on why he didn’t mind being a ball hog: “I’m more comfortable shooting off the double-team than passing”
Here’s a headline from The Wall Street Journal:
“AI computing is a memory hog. An Nvidia-backed startup has an answer.”
Got it?
Good!
