When was the last time the police came looking for you?
Well, they came looking for me on Sunday night.
It was 10 o’clock.
I was upstairs in bed reading a book.
I heard a knock on the door.
My father answered.
“Sorry to bother you, sir. I’m looking for….”
A WALLET
To say I was surprised would be an understatement.
I was…
Shocked.
Stunned.
Flabbergasted.
How did they know?
WHAT’S ANOTHER WORD FOR “WALLET”?
This morning, as my dad was leaving for the office, he yelled my name.
He had gotten halfway down the stairs when he realized he’d forgotten something.
“Can you bring me my billfold?” he asked me.
By the way, today is his 93rd birthday.
You can see here how we celebrated his 90th.
FROM SAINT TO CRIMINAL
Earlier that day, I had found a wallet on the ground.
I picked it up so I could return it to the owner.
I felt like a saint as I imagined the owner thanking me again and again.
Now I felt like a criminal.
I quickly got dressed and went downstairs.
Can you explain how they found me?
To be continued…
Cheers,
Mr. Vig
P.S.
“Explain” is an Atomic Word.
But what if you can’t explain something?
What if it’s a mystery?
What do you say then?
And why do we call it a billfold?
And who says “billfold” and who says “wallet”?
Listen to today’s Atomic Homework for the answer.
