Birds chirping.
Water flowing.
Trees swaying in the summer breeze.
How would you describe this scene?
ENGLISH’S NEWEST WORD
Hello from my work-ation in the mountains of Bulgaria!
That’s my new word.
It’s a vacation where you work.
Does that sound like a nightmare to you?
I don’t mind.
As long as the work is interesting and the place is beautiful.
SOUND SMART
The scene I described above is what I see out my window every day.
You could call it “peaceful”; that sounds just fine.
You could also call it “calm” or “relaxing”; also fine.
And because those are Atomic Words, you’ll hear and see them often.
But what if you want to sound… poetic?
Or what if you want to impress someone?
Or sound smart?
Then I recommend these two words:
- Tranquil
- Serene
Use these words in your sentences and you may get asked, “Did you go to Harvard or Yale?”
“Neither,” you’ll reply. “I subscribe to Atomic Homework.”
Have a great weekend,
Mr. Vig
P.S.
Want to actually see the tranquil scene outside my window?
You can!
Because it’s Video Friday!
Go here to watch and listen to today’s Atomic Homework.
Plus, you’ll learn how to correctly use “tranquil” and “serene.”
You’ll learn the common noun forms.
And you’ll discover how to pronounce them correctly.
