I’m going to call an old classmate.
But not just any classmate.
This is a girl I used to like, but never had the nerve to ask out.
And I haven’t seen her or spoken to her for 37 years!
But tomorrow, I’m going to get up the nerve to call her.

Well, today is already September 21st. You probably called her, but I don’t know what you said.
I would tell the truth, just as you told us. Anything else could lead to unpredictable and maybe awkward situations. In the end, you might not be able to get out it gracefully and could be left with a bitter feeling.
And whatever she is doing now, know that she will accept and appreciate the truth.
