I just landed in a new country last night – Estonia!
My first impressions?
I think I have no chance of blending in.
Blending in is a game I play in new countries.
Here’s how you can play:
- You go to a foreign country.
- You learn a few words of the local language (example: Good afternoon).
- You go to a store or restaurant and use these local words.
And if the waiter or shop assistant continues in the local language, you win – they think you’re a local!
So why do I say I have no chance of being mistaken for a local?
Well, it happened at lunch today.
I went to a salad place in the mall.
I loaded up my plate.
Then, as I slid my tray toward the cash register to pay, before I could open my mouth, the tall, blonde woman behind the counter looked at my non-blonde head and said…
“Hello!”
So, not far from Finland anymore 😁
“Hello” sounds international enough. You could respond with the local greeting and that would bring you the success. You lost the game before you started Mr. Vig, sorry!
Tere🙂 Welcome to Estonia🇪🇪
Welcome to Estonia!
Don’t believe – not all blondes here are actually THAT blonde 🙂
And about brynett some says: “She’s not blonde, she’s kohuke!” Do you know what it means? Hint: It’s a bit about blondes.
Tips, how to blend in: Talk little, be serious, eat potatoes and gravy, dont drink Coca-Cola, go out of town to the countruside (for a farm work), be self-ironic:)
What a suprise! Welcome to my home country! 🙂
I appreciate the game. You learn some basic words and you use them. Until that it’s ok.
Beautiful invitation
Funy story!!! You look so ,,american”, even if you try harder than you did already, it’s very hard to blending in!
A beautiful story! Thank you! And yet: “hello” is more than “ok”. But this one will follow, maybe tomorrow, even if it is “blonder” than in Romania! Good evening, Mr. Vig!!❤️🙏
Welcome to Estonia!
Tere Mr. Vig, i am glad you’re here! Waiting for your vitamin-stories🤓
Tere, Mr.Vig!

Tere tulemast Eestisse, Mr. Vig!
Mul on väga hea meel, et valisid uueks riigiks Eesti ja Tallinna.
Olen siit pärit ja elan Tallinnas, nagu kohalik ikka … Blond 😉
Olen aus ja otsekohene, mul oleks suur huvi võimalusel kohtuda ja vestelda… inglise keeles 🙂
Loodan, et naudid siin olemist!
Parimate soovidega, Ege
It will be interesting to know the score of game “blanding in” in Estonia. How many “hello” you will have? I guess 12 times. And your victory 24 times. Good luck!
The sun does not hide behind a sieve.
And the language is like no other !!! Have few words similar to the Finish , but nothing like the Hungarian . But supposedly they are from the same origin/group !!! Nevertheless Talin is a very nice city especially the old part of it.
Your game that you play in new countries is very fun. Estonia may not be a country where you can swap with a local people, but there are plenty of places where you can.
Good luck on your journey
Really?! OMG! Velcome to Estonia!

Nex stop Finland. You just take the ferry to Helsinki and you will be there in no time.

Well, in Italy or Spain, even if I asked someone something in English, they would reply in their local language. Amazing!
Hahaha! How did she understand you?? Your scalp, as I can see, is fully shaved.
Nice game and the impressions are amazing. you should be fearless so you could play games like blending in new countries using few words from the local language (good morning)
