Yesterday, I asked you why the Petras suddenly lost their confidence.
Some of your replies:
They were suprised and the situation with you was different for them.
They didn’t expect to meet you.
Well, the environment suddenly changed
The elevator is a new situation
I think that the circumstances changed
I totally agree.
Confidence is Situational
What does that mean?
It means in some situations you may be confident, while in other situations, your confidence deflates like a tire with a nail in it.
I’m confident finding my way around Prague, but I would not be confident finding anything in Tokyo.
Confidence depends on where you are, who you’re with, and even how you’re feeling that day.
Confidence is not a light switch: on or off… yes or no…
But you want to be more confident, in more situations, talking with more people.
Right?
So here’s a simple idea: Expand your practice
Talk to more people, more often, in more situations.
Then you’ll be ready for anyone who walks into your elevator.
HI Ryan !
Confidence depends a lot on situation you are in.
But, if you speak English well, you shouldn’t be afraid.
Hello. Confidence is probably the same as knowledge in language. If you know or speak very well, you have a lot of confidence in all situations…. bye
Your are right, confidence depends on a lot of circunstances, but practics always inproves your confidence. On the other hand, you need some confident to look for opportunities to practice.
Yes, I agree with the statement that confidence, feeling confidently depends on situation, is situational, when I know that people speak very well, and when I know that probably they are critical, I feel that I need to be relying on myself more, to to speak .. English too, but not only English, in my native language I have the same ..Speaking underlines our independence according to me, because we express our own thoughts, feelings, needs, etc, we show our individuality, strong sides and our weaknesses. Just it is my viewpoint.
It’s interesting to be ready for anyone who walks into elevator… Because all my life people were standing in an elevator 🙂
I repeat Mr. Vig,thanks for your lessons and for your advices
You’re welcome!
Thank you Ryan. Sunny day.
What to do: Be open, out from your komfort zone, be interesting for other people. How: take a question about the whether, or situation to the people… and it is the start the communication with a foreign people… and continue with a other question…
