Confident or competent?
That was yesterday’s question.
Most of you said confident.
But some of you said said competent.
And one reader asked, “How it possibly to be a good speaker but not confident?”
Believe me, I’ve spoken with many students who had great English, but inside they were as shy as a child on his or her first day of school.
That’s why I think it’s better to be confident.
Then you can go to the bar, meet a foreigner, chat, and become competent later.
Too Confident?
Americans are famous for being confident.
But can you be too confident?
Watch this video of an American using his foreign language skills to impress a woman and you decide!
Enjoy!

Christors is right. If you know what you want, you are confident.
I feel like I’m in the dark here, to quote Al Pacino… 😊 So, you’re asking about a semester, and then you mention it’s about three months at a school. In Tuesday’s power story about the Uyghur language, you said, ‘A semester is a period of time in a school. So you might have the Fall semester, the Winter semester, the Spring semester, etc.’ Now, as far as I know, a semester is a half-year term, which means it’s six months, not just three. If I’m off the mark, let me know. But it seems like a trimester or a quarter is the one with three months. What’s the scoop?
Hmm. You’re right about trimesters: there are three. And when I was in school, we had a semester for every season – there was even a summer semester in college if you wanted extra classes. It might be that it’s different in the UK or in the past, but that’s how we use semester in the U.S.
The guy is very …confident!
so confident is more important thing to need to move on, After that you are competent to impress with your knownledges
