“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.”
— Antoine de Saint Exupéry
drum up = encourage
long for = want
immense = very big

“A lifestyle…”
“An anti-depressant…”
“Windows to the world…”
“A dream…”
Your words, not mine.
This is how you described English in the comments of yesterday’s Vitamin V.
What happened to “verb tenses”… “conditionals”…. “phrasal verbs”….?
After all, that’s what English teachers are selling.
But if I follow Exupery’s advice…
If English is our ship…
Then I should tell stories of the wonderful things you will experience when you join the English-speaking world.
What do you think abou that?
It’s vers hopeful 😀
Lovely!
Thank you, It is kindly true. You should tell stories of the wonderful things you will experience when you join the English-speaking world. I listen your bridge story every day…. Bye
I’m sure, that the knowledge of a foreign languages widens the seer for the people. There is an old Hungarian proverb: “The more languages you speak, so much people you are worth.”
Speaking people are on the same ship, just as people in Mr. Vig vilage, you conect with other people and change your thougt, opinion, experiens .. of course speaking english language… have a nice evening
Exupery’s advice is wonderful. And true. I would like to attend an English performance in teather. I would choose Romeo and Julia in English. Especially, Julia.
deep meaning!
If…
” If you set out for Ithaka
hope your road is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops
angry Poseidon – don’t be afraid of them:
you’ll never find thinks like that in your way…
( C.P. Cavafy- Ithaka)
Yes, please, don’t stop tell us the stories of the wonderful things we will experience during joining English world because you know how to tell them and it’s a pleasure to listen to you. 🙂
There is no doubt, “but if I …” because you always follow Exupery’s advice and teach us to yearn for the infinite immensity of the linguistic landscape.
Cheers.
If English is our/my ship I could sail around the world and discover not only seas and oceans but also every single port on the way. It will be more than magical journey.
Yes,Yes,//Windows to the world//Ilike and agree with Exupery/good advice //Thankyou Ryan
Salut Ryan!
Poveștile tale sunt mereu binevenite
Nu renunță la acest obicei .
Îți mulțumim !
Noroc,
Gabriel
I agree with that. Sounds inspirational.
Hi! Sea and ship … are wonderful metaphor…Thanks, and for your lessons and e-mails. They can be our English-speaking sea. And we are the sailors.
saint Exupery was right.
I know such sentence- “If I know ‘what for’, I can survive every ‘how’……”
Wonderful story ! I think we like to learn English by reading more stories like this!
One of my dreams is to own a sailboat. Yes, my dream is to be a sailor. And I love stories. It doesn’t matter if it’s true or false.
Yes, wise men say smart things that give a lot food for thougt. You only need to keep your eyes, ears and mind open.
This is true.
Thanks, it’s very instructive.
I ´am so happy to join our English ship and I hope that in the near future I will be able to easily share different interesting stories.
Saint-Exupery said in one of his books «For Americans, nothing is astonishing!»
Is that true ?
We’ll try to follow his advice and stay in the English-speaking world.
Thank you for helping us becoming confident.
Interesting. I don’t know. Sometimes I’m astonished.
I have been a happy sailor all my life. This ship has been one of my favorites for about eight months now. I love your stories about wonderful things and sometimes not so wonderful things, but always inspiring, just like the life.
Each forgin language will open a new door to the world.
Very nice! I’m glad to find this course in good shape… and ship 🙂 .
