Why?
That’s what one reader asks.
Why does someone leave home and family to travel the world and live in foreign countries?
I think I’ve got the answers…
Nomad Fest Day Four
Hi from the Pirin Mountatins.
This week, I’m reporting to you from the digital nomad event of the year: Nomad Fest.
I’ve been a full nomad (one bag and no rental contract), a half nomad (renting an apartment and still travelling) and an expat (living all year in one foreign country).
And I’ve met a lot of people doing the same.
Here’s why we do it:
- Problems at Home
Yes, it is true that some people leave home to escape their problems. But what they all find out eventually is that you can’t escape yourself.
2. Lifestyle
Many nomads say they used to be in the rat race (working 9-5).
Or they used to materialists (working to buy things).
Now they prefer to work when they want, where they want, and to use their money to buy experiences.
3. To Feel Rich
I had lunch today with a guy who lives in Bansko and works remotely for a German company.
He makes a German salary but pays Bulgarian prices.
He may not be rich, but I’m sure that’s how he feels.
Cheers,
I can’t even imagine. It sounds like dream life to me. I think I would lost myself in the multiple things that I would like to try doing at once
What does it mean to feel rich? It’s not just about money. A person is truly rich when he travels, gets to learn about unusual natural phenomena, to know many people, habits, languages, foods, tastes, smells, traditions, and has a lot of experiences. Maybe then we can talk about real spiritual wealth? Of course, family, friends, profession, home are a safe point for everyone, but you don’t have to be a nomad for the rest of your life, right?
I don’t know, the life is so complex… Me, as Bulgarian, I don’t like many things in my country. But, I am impressed that many foreign people arrive in Bulgaria, stay here to work or just for adventure. They even like our country which has thousands of problems. Why the foreigners like Bulgaria. I am sure the reason is not because here the life is cheaper…
Hi!
I didn´t know very much about the life of nomads before. Thanks for introducing it to us. Although this is not the life of my dreams, because I prefer a stable home and the routine that comes with it. It´s still interesting to know who nomads are and why they are nomads and what kind of life they lead. But I´m sure whoever has chosen this way of life and if it suits them it will definitely enrich more than money.
Thanks Mr. Vig! Only a question: Can you be a nomad if your are in your 60’s?
The best wishes, Clara
Regards from Bulgarien Girl in Germany 😁
I think not everyone aspires this nomad life. Who chooses this kind of life, has a nomadic personality.Independence is more important to him than constrains.
It is nice to hear that nomads are enjoying their lifestyle. Almost all people like travelling. I could not travel as much as I wished because of my work and my family, but being a nomad can happen in any period of life, especially in the sixties, or even later, when you have no obligations. So, our idea is to travel and stay in one place for a month or more and then change the town or a country. We’ll see, it shouldn’t be ultimately too expensive.
Maybe a minimalist lifestyle is a way to bring peace and quiet in our souls.Sometime, a big number of things owned becomes unconfortable and tiring for our state and feelings.
If you din’t to be the digital nomad did you be a nomad at all? Is it easy to be the nomad, because you can known and meet so many nomad? Is it so easy cause you can be contact every people? You can feels that you “carry” your relatives (or friends…) with you includes even that they do not be among the nomads.
I think they aren’t real nomad, but their style of life is nomadic.
It sounds like a reasonable explanation. Probably, the reasons for that choice are arranged by their importance…
I think that nomads search for some kind of love, to find out someone or something. I just wonder if they ever succeed. Sometimes, I dream about reaching the end of the plain, where I live. It is attractive, as its end is far, far away. It looks like never ending plain.
Interesting thoughts!Thank you that you share with us
Totally agree with 3 topics, but I would add another one. Some people leave their country because they disagree with current politicians, with current government and they do it as a protest. The number of those people increasingly grow day by day.
Interestîg story 👍
There is the real and inevitable truth: you can’t escape from yourself!
Years ago, in Brussels, I talked to a man who had long led a nomadic way of life. He shared that while his nomadism had an emotional basis, his lifestyle didn’t bring him any benefits.
As he began to put more substance into each of his steps, the benefits came.
In the end he didn’t find what made him nomadic for many years, but he said he was able to make some changes in himself.
He now lived happily in the place he once fled, vowing never to return there.
“lived” is a grammar mistake 🤭
Pardon me!
Traveling can be very fun sometimes. This is basically the only way to form your own opinion about the world.
