How was your weekend?
Were you thinking about apostrophes?
Dreaming about apostrophes?
Talking about apostrophes with your friends and family?
Last week, I showed you not one, but two apostrophe mistakes.
And now, without further delay, let’s talkout…
Apostrophe Rules
The first mistakes was: DIM SUM AT IT’S FINEST.
It should be: DIM SUM AT ITS FINEST
Why?
As one reader wrote in the comments:
it’s – is short for it is.
The second mistake was: THE BARS OPEN.
Why?
As one reader wrote in the comments:
Bar’s open = bar is open
Now go have fun with some apostrophes!
Excellent,yes I see.Unestand it.
yes it is unerstandable with explanation.
Mr Vig has also done a mistake… “The first mistakes was” 🙂
Woops!
I understand
👍
I have fun,
“Tha’ts good”!
It’s a good lesson, thank you!🤓
In Spanish, there is a very funny example, not about apostrophes, but about commas and the importance of placing them correctly. I don’t know if it makes sense in English, but I’ll try it. Here’s the mini story:
Time to eat kids!
Time to eat, kids!
Commas save lives.”
😉
Ha!
In summury apostrophe refers to belonging (Mr Vig’s course) or is used to contract words for example in “Bar’s open”.
Hi! Apostrophes are interesting to me. It´s good you, Ryan, point out their use.
But commas are also difficult. One rough example of commas.
Verdict: acquite, not shoot
Verdict: acquit not, shoot
If you put the comma wrong here, what would happen…???
It’s amazong
Im so glad I learned something new today. Wev’e had a great time, havent we! I think Ill remember these lesson’s for a long time!
