On Friday I asked you an important question.
This is important.
Because the average student wants to learn more grammar rules.
But the student who makes few mistake has an ear that can hear mistakes.
The Mistake
The waitress asked, “Something for drink?”
The correct question is, “Something to drink?”
But most American waitresses would ask, “Can I get you something to drink?”
How do you train your ears to hear mistakes?
Listen.
Read.
And pay attention.
Cheers,
Mr. Vig
For me I have no problem to use the adverbs, but in general some people may found some difficulty to use them… am I right
Thanks
Sometimrs I can hear mistakes what I do. But…this is wather under bridge – this is done :).
So, more. correctly would be:
Can I get you something to drink?
Now, thanks.
Yes, I’ve heard the mistake, One possible answer to the correct question “Can I get you something to drink?” would be ” Yes, of course, but can I get the menu, first?”. I think I’ll have a soda, please”
Am I right?
Yes!
Listen, read and pay attention!
Ahaa : Can I get you !……to drink ! No : …for drink…
I usually can hear mistakes, I’ve heard this one too, but in my ooinion, if you say ‘Something for drinking?’, would also be correct, wouldn’t be?
In Bulgarian it is common to ask ‘Something for drinking?’
