Yesterday, I showed you a sign with some English mistakes.
Thank you all for your guesses on the blog!
And now…
Here are the three mistakes I saw.
Plus, my corrections and explanations:
MISTAKE #1: The sign says the manicures and pedicures are for “woman and man.”
That doesn’t sound right, does it?
Doesn’t this sound better, The manicures and pedicures are for “women and men”?
Improvement #1: “women and men’s manicures and pedicures”
MISTAKE #2: When you talk about both sexes, people usually say “men and women” and not “women and men.”
Don’t ask me why, it just sounds better.
It’s the same with “up and down.”
That sounds normal.
But “down and up”…
Not so much.
MISTAKE #3: If you’re a man, why are you getting a manicure or a pedicure?
I must comment:
mistake 1: I agree.
mistake 2: It is interesting. I’l remember
mistake 3: Hope it’s a joke. You are not serious.
1.Well, I am glad that I have guessed good but I slept early like a baby… No more mistakes for me, maybe people in England, America give priority for men (I will remember that also) but it’s not usually in every country…Men have to be gentlemen😉😁 and also can have a manicure and a pedicure but for both they dont have to put nail polish if they dont like to be women… 🙃😃
It is natural to say: „ladies and gentlemen „ but on the other side:“ man and women“ .
I don’t bother for the order in the expression as long as people are polite.
But nowadays there is a new titles: „It or undetermined or …
Wonder in which direction it leads??
Hi, so we can say laydies and gentlemen sound better like .. gentlemen and laydies
they can both have beautiful nails on hand and foot,
I want to take a brake in december, I will be back in the new year! Mari
São as feministas, sempre se colocam em primeiro e nem sempre são mulheres.
Agora, homens que usam unhas coloridas são afeminados.
????
??
I agree, the mistake no.3 is the biggest one!
I am not sure if I understand well “women and men’s manicures and pedicures”. The ‘s is only behind men. It sounds like (women and men)’s.
Relay … If you’re a man,why are you getting a manicure or a pedicure?????
But why not ??
I saw the three mistakes, very interesting, especially the third one, but I wonder about the words manicures and pedicures because in Romanian this nouns have no plural,; you can only say manicure and pedicure
For laughing a little…!
I guess according your explanation,is correct
men-up and women-down
What about the opposite? Is good to have imagination!
Ha, ha….
So, mistake #1, mistake #2 it`s clear now – thanks Ryan! But mistake #3… hmm. I suppose if a man has a problem with his toenails (maybe he has too big belly)…He´ll be very happy to get help from a pedicure!
