Almost Heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, growin’ like a breeze-lyrics by John Denver

What a beautiful song.
And it’s completely wrong!
The Blue Ridge Mountains… the Shenandoah River….
They are NOT in West Virginia…
They’re in VIRGINIA!
John Denver was born 1,500 miles away in New Mexico and lived in Colorado.
When he wrote the song, he thought it needed an extra syllable, so he added the word “west.”
Anyway, they’re both beautiful states.
And in the next few weeks while I’m here, I’d like to show you around.
One Of My Favorite Movie Jokes
Which reminds me of one of my favorite movie jokes.
It’s from Dumb & Dumber.
Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels have been driving for days to reach Colorado.
This is a state that’s famous for its mountains and skiing. (that’s where Aspen and Vail are)
And John Denver made it more famous when he wrote the song, “Rocky Mountain High.”
So when the two main characters in the film think they’ve arrived in Colorado – in fact, they made a wrong turn and are in Nebraska which, like Kansas, is famous for being flat as a pancake, their reaction is hysterical.

Have a great weekend,
Mr. Vig
P.S.
The expression Jeff Daniels uses is perfect when you want to say that someone is lying.
But what about when you want to say that… in a more polite way?
When you’re at work or with family…?
