Vegas is a fascinating town.
I wouldn’t want to live there.
But I can recommend a visit.
And if you want to see the real Vegas, go with a local.
On The Strip
It was Monday morning in the Nevada History museum and my niece and her husband and I were trying to figure out what to do on my last night in town.
“What do you do when you want to have fun?” I asked.
“We go to a casino.”
Sometimes, even the locals do what the tourists do.
So we went to the MGM Grand and saw a show.
In the old days, people would drive up from Los Angeles for the weekend to sit in a nightclub and hear singers like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
Now, the entertainment is large-scale and high-budget.
The Cirque du Soleil show we saw had dozens of performers, a live orchestra, explosions, a giant moving stage and speakers in every seat.
It was spectacular.
Afterwords, as we were walking through the casino, I thought I’d try my luck.
I put exactly one dollar into a slot machine.
I lost.
Not so spectacular.
Wow! I hope you have better luck next time!
