Hello from a new place!
But a familiar place.
This is my third October in Chiang Mai.
Every year, after the Bangkok conference, a bunch of us migrate north for a few weeks, a few months, or a few years!
On Friday, I’m going to a Halloween party at a friend’s house; he’s English, his wife is Thai, they have two kids, and they’ve been here for years.
But the first time I came to Chiang Mai, I didn’t like it.
I thought it was noisy – lots of scooters, airplanes flying over – and chaotic – no sidewalks, lots of scooters….
But now, it’s starting to grow on me.
The people are super friendly.
At Starbucks, when my drink is ready, I’m not just “Ryan” I’m “Mr. Ryan.”
Life is easy.
A friend is going to London in November for foot surgery. He told me that in order to rent an apartment he needed to reserve it three months in advance and leave a month’s deposit. Whereas, he booked his Chiang Mai apartment the day before arriving without any problems.
There are tons of interesting restaurants and cafes. (So why am I going to Starbucks…?)
And it’s always summer, even if there isn’t a beach.

Hi again!
Oh, no, don’t go in Starbucks😜, but ok if you really like their coffee. I don’t figer out why people like Starbucks. We have it in Belgrade or we say Beograd like White town literally.. But its now red or dark like Nepal😔…
I like to try local drinks and food even coffee, maybe sometimes just once😋. Not to try too much dangerous, strange food/drinks, or something like that but usual or famous locals.
In my town, there are many more good cafes with excellent coffee…But also there are some bad, worst then in Starbucks. And price is not value of drinks or food…
In addition, many Americans eat burgers and ask for restaurants with food as in their countries and I was surprise about that in Nica, before 10 years.
Drinks are almost similar in Europe. OK, there are little difference in some alcoholic drinks but food, especially in France, is not so same like in Balkans, Germany… Italians have also specific food which I like the most. We have now burgers here but I don’t like it. We, Greek and Turkish people have kebab witch we call “ćevapčići” and that is not gyros… Also we have thin burgers cold “pljeskavica” with ground meat.
And, I am not hungry, I’ve just eaten peas with chicken meat and pancake with cream😍🫣☺️, at my pause. I am only motivated now or have a little bit more time to write…
Have a nice day and Halloween party to all, who celebrate!
