Do you know my piano story?
(Don’t worry, this relates to your English. I promise.)
I moved into a new apartment about three years ago.
I told the real estate guy, “I love it! But can you take out the piano?”
Long story short, real estate guy said “No” and my new flatmate was a 1987 Petrov upright piano.
For the first year, I used it as a bookshelf and a drink holder.
Then, one day, YouTube showed me an ad for a live, online piano lesson for beginners.
I signed up, watched and “Wow!” the guy made it look fun and easy.
So I bought his course and started going through his training videos.
But eventually, my practice slowed down and progress crawled to a stop.
I never made it past the scales.
Flash Forward One Year
I practice every week.
I can play two songs.
And I’ve even given a concert (even though it was a dud).
What made the difference?
Eyeballs
Every Friday afternoon, I walk down the street to visit my piano teacher from Slovakia.
I know I will play for her.
I know her eyeballs will be on me and my fingers.
And that motivates me to practice on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday… every day!
My Recommendation
Not practicing English enough?
Get some eyeballs!
