Friday afternoon in Prague.
My piano lesson was over.
I was in the center.
It was still early.
So what to do?
“I know! I’ll visit Cafe NONA.”
This is one of my favorite cafes in Prague.
I’ve been going there for many years and have written many words and drunk many cups of coffee there.
It’s not like any other cafe I’ve been to.
It’s hidden from the street on the second floor of a brutalist building from the 1980s.
“Brutalism” was a style of architecture so terrible, so ugly, it’s now become beautiful.
The inside looks and feels like a 1970s vision of the future.
Something from a Stanley Kubrick film.
Totally unique.
And now, totally closed.

Oh, well.
Nothing lasts forever…
What Is Atomic?
The oldest bar in Las Vegas: Atomic Liquors.
Blondie’s 1979 hit: “Atomic.”
The best-seller by James Clear: Atomic Habits.
And, of course, there’s the atomic bomb.
But why “Atomic Words”?
Rules
This week and next, we’re talking about rules.
My fist rule: Master the Atomic Words.
Like the atom, The Atomic Dictionary is small – there are just 2,801 words inside.
(Compare this to the Unabridged Oxford English dictionary which has 171,00 words!)
And also like the atom, these words are powerful.
With less than 1% of the dictionary, you can understand 87-100% of every English sentence!
Next Week: Rule #2 (I promise.)

Café NONA looks like a typical kind of styl Brutalismus of architecture. I judging by photo of inetrior. I agree with you, styl is horrible, exactly brutal, but used to be that look so modern – future a little scifi. But it has something uniqe, very design. Geometric design… I see and like me ceilling, maybe with lights. Recently, when I was in Prague interest me café Grand on Wencel square. I think it called, because Its part of hotel. Very historical, luxury, pleasant and elegant.
Hi there, Ryan.
I like this article. And I looked at the Atomic Dictionary_Atomic Words, Power words. But there are not 2.801 words there but 4.680 ones. Could you expand on this ?
However BRUTALISM is a strong word and it supose to be an exaggerating but an inspiring word…
During 1950, brutalism is an architectural style the architects used raw materials to build bold rough geometrics forms and the functions overcamed aesthetics. The origin of the word is the French ” beton brut”
The most interesting thing is ugly in the past, now it feels like beautiful..
My explanation is now it feels.like a vintage style….Think it was a kind of artistic movement that face rough simplicity against sweet aesthetics baroque for example and other art curents.
Hi!
I am Marton, and I am here for the first time. I like your lesson. It is something interesting and new for me. I want to improve my english an I hope to make this now. I looked at the “Unabridged Oxford English Dictionary” and I understend that it has 170,000 words in current use. It seems that the text above is missing a 0 (zero). But it is clear, the atomic words are very useful.
Woops. You’re right! It’s missing a zero….
