Last Friday, I had dinner with four strangers.
Two men.
Two women.
And me.
Of course, everyone was single; why else would you be having dinner with strangers on a Friday night?
So naturally, the conversation turned to dating.
Here’s what I learned from the women:
Czech men don’t hit on women.
In Sweden, women hit on men.
And in general, everyone is hitting on everyone else a lot less these days.
Is it any mystery that the birth rate is declining?
HIT ON
This week, we’re talking about all the wonderful and varied ways you can use the verb “hit.”
So what does it mean if you hit on someone?
A) to chat up
B) to come on to
C) to flirt with
D) none of the above
G) all of the above and what happened to “E”?

Dear Mr. Vig, for me, the most interesting word today is definitely “sack”. It’s fascinating how it can mean anything from a bed to losing your job or a city being destroyed. It made me think of Prague and the reconstructed museum at Florenc. They exhibit an incredible paper model of the city from the 19th century. In a way, it’s a record of the old Jewish Quarter and parts of the New Town before they were sacked by 19th-century urban renewal. History can be quite brutal…, but at least we can peek at the past through that model.
Btw, I vote for “hit the nail on the head”. 👍
A, B, C, E) to show interest in, F) 😀 to pursue…
A B C and E: Because I am accident-prone, I hit my own eye.
