How was your weekend?
Did you enjoy some serene mountains and tranquil forests on a powerful, noisy machine?
I did!
Let me explain….
ATVS IN THE MOUNTAINS
Sunday was the last day of the Nomad Fest.
There were no lectures, only fun activities.
The choices were:
- Whitewater rafting
- Horseback riding
- An ATV ride.
I chose the ATV ride. (all-terrain vehicle)
Because what better way to experience nature than on a loud, fast machine?
ONLY IN ENGLISH
In the afternoon, about seven guys met at a Bansko hotel.
(No women wanted to come!)
A driver took us in a van a few minutes outside of town.
We got a 30-second driving and safety lesson from some guy who knew four English words.
“On. Off. Go. Stop.”
And we were off!
We drove across fields, through forests, up and down hills, and took a break to see a waterfall.
After the ride, we were sitting around talking and enjoying some ice cream.
I mentioned horseback riding and the German guy in our group said, “Oh, that’s so English.”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Where else are you going to ride a horse?” he said.
He was right.
You can’t ride on a horse’s head or stomach.
So why don’t we just say “horse riding”?
I hadn’t thought about that before.
Any other interesting expressions you’ve noticed in English?
