My dad’s the big cheese in his company.
When I was a kid, sometimes I would go to his office after school.
And everyone was so nice to me!
I thought all adults in offices were nice.
Then I grew up and got a job in an office.
“Where did all the friendly adults go?” I wondered.
Now I’ve got my own company.
Now I’m the big cheese.
And everyone is friendly again.
It’s nice to be the big cheese.

I have no idea about the word honcho, but in Spanish is also used the expression “Pez Gordo” (fat fish) to refer to a big cheese.
