When I was a kid we played a game called “Opposite Day.”
“Yes” meant “no.” “Stop” meant “go.” And I think you got extra points if you walked backwards, or something like that.
What if today was Opposite Day for English?
Imagine if we took the traditional idea of homework and turned it around? Made it the exact opposite of what we’re used to?
Here are some typical responses to homework. What would be the opposite?
TYPICAL RESPONSE 1: I’m too tired to do this.
TYPICAL RESPONSE 2: This is soooo boring.
TYPICAL RESPONSE 3: Do I have to do this?
TYPICAL RESPONSE 4: What’s the point if I’m just going to forget it?
This isn’t just an interesting exercise, it’s what is absolutely necessary for anyone to become fluent.
Homework (and every other bad habit you learned in school) will keep you nice and stuck in Intermediate Hell for YEARS!
The opposite will get you a better job… international customers…. an international audience…
And did you know that every day is Opposite Day in Mr Vigland?
It’s true!
(I mean, “true”…not opposite “true”…)
