Here’s how you answered:
(1=never, 5= absolutely)
So it looks like my job is safe, at least for now.
And now here’s my opinion:
Have you seen those videos on Youtube where some kid has no idea what a cassette tape is?
I’m sure one day I’ll be walking through the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington, D.C. with my great, great grandson (in the future we all live to be 145). And we’ll walk past a brontosaurus, past a woolly mammoth, and then he’ll stop and ask me, “What’s that?”
And I’ll say, “That’s an English teacher.”
But it won’t be because of this or any other invention.
It will be because the world finally wakes up and realizes the old methods don’t work.
Like the French in the streets of Paris in 1789, they will shout, “Enough!”
Great fires will be made and on them will be thrown the instruments of torture from a less-civilized age, the English Files, the Cutting Edges the Murphy’s English Grammar in (Ab)Use.
The slogan for this New Age of English, “No one can teach you a language. It can only be learn.”*
So if you can’t teach a language, what am I doing here?
Good question.
I’m the guide.
There are many paths. Some lead nowhere. Some get you there faster than others.
And I have the map.
