What’s a mailbag?
Well, it’s a bag. And inside… there’s mail.
(See why people say I’m such an amazing teacher?)
And in the old days, when a writer would publish his opinion in a newspapers, some readers would send him a letter, usually because they agreed or disagreed.
So if you read that something is “from the mailbag,” that means it’s a reply from a reader.
Now here’s my idea: every Friday I’ll share with you a question from a Vitamin V reader.
Sound good?
Ok, here we go…
“What should I read?”
This one’s easy.
Because the answer is: I don’t know.
You see, there are two rules for reading — easy and interesting.
And I don’t know what’s easy for you or what’s interesting.
I like historical biographies and books on productivity.
Do you like that?
Do you also find them easy?
If you do, then I can definitely make some recommendations.
But if you don’t, then I can’t.
On Wednesday I wrote about the importance of having friends who share your goals.
I would add that it’s important to also have friends who are readers and who share your interests.
For business books, I have business friends I can ask.
For language books, I have language friends I can ask.
You can also just read the first few pages on Amazon or in the bookstore and decide for myself.
And really, what’s the worst that could happen if you make the wrong choice?
You buy a book. You start to read it. You find out it’s either not interesting or not easy. So you put it down and look for another book.
You’ve lost a little money and a little time.
No big deal.
The bigger mistake is not reading.
Because when you don’t read, you don’t improve your English. And when you don’t improve your English, you lose a lot of money, a lot of time, a lot of opportunities….
