“What do you do?”
That’s a simple question, right?
I’ve been answering it for years.
And now I can even answer in Italian: Lavoro como insegnante.
But when someone asked me yesterday, in English, I don’t think he really understood.
Here’s what I said, “I help non-native English speakers improve their English. And I have different products online, like courses and books.”
I thought that was a clear answer.
But then he asked, “Kind of like Babbel?”
“Babble…?!” I repeated with a look of shock and disgust on my face.
If you’ve never heard of Babbel, it’s a language-learning app.
I know a guy who used to work at the company’s headquarters in Berlin.
He said that most people who purchase the app use it once then never open it again.
It’s like the Thigh Master for English.
Here in America, if you watch TV late at night, you can see lots of commercials for strange and interesting exercise products.
One of the most famous was called The Thigh Master.
It was a huge success — made a ton of money.
But did anyone really end up looking like the model in the ads?
My guess is that most people used it once or twice, then put it in the closet next to their other exercise equipment, just like Babbel.
But does that mean all exercise equipment doesn’t work?
Does it mean that all apps don’t work?
Not necessarily….
I’ve tried a few of these apps.
Some are ok.
Some are not.
I’ll tell you which I recommend.
But first, I’m curious….
