I finally did it.
I bought a plane ticket to Europe.
Next Thursday I fly from Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia, to Prague, Czech Republic, via Lisbon.
I left Prague in the fall of 2018 after fourteen years of teaching English there.
For one year I lived in Baltimore, Maryland, where I experienced my first “real job.”
It was a good experience.
I learned a lot.
And one of the biggest lessons I learned was, I would rather spend ten hours every day teaching than one hour sitting in an office.
So I left Baltimore.
Then covid hit.
Now for the last ten months I’ve been enjoying the Virginia countryside while staying at my parents’ farm, writing, reading, creating lessons, and making up for lost time with family, whom I rarely got to see while living so far away.
But now it’s time to return.
I’ll keep writing Vitamin V every day. I’ll keep creating lessons for my Academy and Society students. And I might even take some private students again, like in the old days.
But I’ll do them from my second home, Prague.
There’s just one problem.
The U.S. State Department website lists the Czech Republic as “Level Three: Reconsider Travel.”
On September 30, the Czech Minister of Health declared the country to be in a “state of emergency.”
And at the border there’s a giant sign that says “We’re Closed!”
So how will I do it?
Will I survive?
And if I can’t and if I don’t, who will guide you down the one true path to glorious English?
Don’t worry.
Your fearless teacher has a plan.
