This week we’re talking about REAL English.
The words and expressions native speakers actually use, but you don’t find in the text books.
Thank you to everyone who shared your favorite on the blog.
And there’s still time to share YOURS.
Go her to share your favorite native-speaker expression.
The Worst
One of the many reasons I like living in foreign countries is because I don’t have to hear my fellow Americans every day.
Most of them are fine people.
I’d just rather have my own thoughts in my head while I’m standing in line at the store instead of hearing people talking loudly on the phone about nothing interesting.
Oh, and some of their expressions are pretty annoying, too.
When I was a kid in the ‘80s, I heard “totally” all the time; as in, Bob’s new girlfriend is totally awesome.
These days, I hear the word “literally” way too much.
And when someone says it, nine times out of ten, what they want to say is “actually” or “really.”
Ug.
Let me see… what else….?
Hey, while I’m thinking about it, go over to the blog and share your favorite (or least favorite) native-speaker expression!
