Misunderstanding some words even a single letter could be risky, fatal, fanny, ridiculous……obviouslly🙃, for English learners there are a lot of challenges in the “journey” called real life experiences in English.

The pronunciation is the same, I don’t hear the difference in pronunciation : we are sinking and we are thinking.
