“I didn’t know that was a mistake.”
That’s what all my students told me.
My first year as a teacher, I was teaching mostly private lessons.
That meant, I would meet the student in his/her office or in a cafe, and we would talk for an hour.
And during that hour, if I heard a mistake, I would tell the student.
I still remember the look of shock and horror some of them had.
“I’ve been saying it that way… for years. And no one ever told me!”
But who’s going to tell you if you’re making a mistake with your English?
Your colleague who has worse English?
Your kids who are looking at their phones?
The tourist on the street?
No.
Only a native English speaker who is paid to listen for your mistakes is going to hear them and tell you about them.
Now, I don’t recommend you ask for ALL your mistakes to be corrected.
That might be, as we say in English, a real downer.
But the big ones, yeah, of course, why not?
And here’s where you can find out your biggest mistakes that no one has ever told you about….
