There’s American English and British English.
You know that.
Well, did you know there’s a third type of English?
I call it…
International English
English is no longer just the language of England.
Nor is it just the language of a few former colonies.
It’s now the world’s language.
And it seems the world is taking English in interesting directions.
Example…
Yesterday we talked about air conditioning (exciting times at Vitamin V!).
Some readers pointed out that the modern machine can also produce heat.
I did not know that.
In the U.S., an air conditioner creates cool air and a heater creates warm air.
But it seems International English has changed the meaning of air conditioning.
So which is right?
American English or International English?
Hi Ryan !
The air conditioner, was designed to create an ambient temperature, cold or warm.
It metters less how it is called in American English or IInternational English.
Have a nice evening !
International! Cooling and Heating – both make an air sonditon, I think.
This is called a Split system, when you buy an air conditioner.
Maybe English English .. but in England people speak in different way too.., sometimes I hear from you English from Nothingam, my first English teacher was from Nothingam and some words you pronuntiate the same
Really?!
It seems to me ,that right is International English, because now one divice, modern machine performs both functions, conducts and heats.
It is only English, I think. As regard to the air conditioner, it could offer fresh or hot air. It depends on the conditions that you want to create…
Hi, Mr. Vig !
I support the existence of International English. As long as you can understand what is being said, it is simply English. Even if you understand some “dialects” from the context. 👍👍
A question please:
You start Vit. V with the following sentence: There’s American English and British English…
If there are 2… shouldn’t it be expressed in the plural? There are ….!
Hi. Imagine if I said, “Here is my friend Bob and here is my friend Bill.”
It depends on the region: 🇺🇲 American English in the U.S. 🤝 🇪🇺 International English in the EU.
It is a complex, difficult and very good question. In the linquistic we have National and International English. The National English can be: British, US, Australien etc…
Than: we can speak about the personal using, dialect , sociolekt… than, it is a difference: do you speak or write, in wich sector, do you speak, or what do you write: post or study… We speak not about the pronunciation, vocabulary … Than English is the World Language, so International… It is important and interesting, wich aspect do you have… 🥴
I think International English. The world is developing and many words are gaining international meaning.
I think it depends on where we are. US is a American English, but EU is International English.
Yeh , I suppose you have to be a little more intelligent to make the difference.; but, maybe American English evolved being influenced by the culture, habits, the spirit and language of people and native people of this land.
We learn American English, but we are, probably, speaking International English.
It depend where you are, in US or in UE
For me, whu is at the beginning of learning, two things are imporant: writing and pronunciation, or understanding the speaker, and it is in the latter that the differences between “English” are very large.
Language is a living and changing system. I think that this system should develop in two directions. On one hand to preserve and increase its wealth, on the other hand to become increasingly easy and accessible to learn and use.
