Here’s an interesting thought.
Because we’re talking about confidence this week…
Would you rather be a very good English speaker and not feel confident, or feel very confident, but not be a very good English speaker?
Hmm. I’ll have to think about that.
And while I’m thinking, you can tell me what you think in the comments below.
Confident or competent?
HI ! Ryan
I think that an speaker English must be competent. Without the competence you can haven’t confident.
Confident and Competent
Without confidence you can hardly become competent in the long run. It is just the practice that will propell you towards competence and it will not work as long as you hesitate to speak due to lack of confidence… My humble opinion…
Strange question …. How it possibly be ? Good speaker but not confident ….
Learn words, get to know some tenses and speak as much as you can……whoever wants will understand
Hi Mr. Vig,
My opinion.
Both requirements – confidence and competence – are necessary. In different proportions, depending on your goal.
For me, who only want to communicate when traveling abroad, I think I need more confidence in speaking English.
After almost 4 months of “studentship” in your school, I think that I do much better in spoken English , when I have to speak. And relaxed to do it, so the confidence in speaking is much higher.
I have experimented and soon I will have the opportunity to do it again. Your method suited me very well. Acknowledgment and thanks, my Teacher!
Have a good time!❤️👍

it depends where you are ,….if you travel around, answering in school, bussines and meeting need competence and confidence in a different part in each situations ..both can get in participate in vig method ..
I think it’s necessary the cofidence
Need both!!☝️
I would prefer to be a very confident but not a very good English speaker.
Without confidence you can’t become competent, can’t make mistakes and try to learn again 😉
I would like to be confident, even though I don’t speak English very well.
Confidence first, so I can practice more and more to become competent.
Hi!
If we are specifically talking about English in a normal situation, then:
1.Confidence
2.Competence
In some other areas, where language errors are not acceptable, the opposite may be the case.
Confident or competent?
Both are important.
Competence without confidence is like a hidden treasure.
Confidence without competence is like an illusion but many people believe that
Yes,it is so difficult to choose between these two things; actually, I think they ballance each other.
I prefer rather to be competent because in this way I allways will know what to do and finally get confident.
Hello
You still have to be confident
in speaking and understanding
that’s more daring
First of all, confident…
Both, on first place confident and second competent
I would say confident 🙂
I prefer to be a very good English speaker and less confident. From my life experience, fluent English speaking makes you also more confident. Also for some people that we see in the media TV or social networks, some people are too much confident because of their English skills but they are lack of competent and therefore talking some times irrational things.
If we talk about language, I think confidence is more important because it comes along with a certain level of knowledge. But in general, I am usually careful with very confident people, because often, upon closer acquaintance, you can understand that the level of knowledge is very superficial.
Competence is important but Confidence is more important, on the first step.
I guess the golden mean is best: sometimes overconfidence gets in the way of becoming more competent.
For me: feel very confident
Both are very importante. Confidence and competent. But feel competent is nothing whitout confidence. Even worse is self-confidence without competent. So this is dificult question.
better be competent…
it is easier to get confindence than good english skill 😀 but in this case you have to use different online teacher 😀
I believe that confidence is accomplished by knowledge
competence and confidence should be in good balance, otherwise it will be funny
I think it`s better to be confident than competent if you need to ask about something you really need. They will understand you anyway.
Better to be both!
Mmmm… si una si alta!… the both. …confident also ..competent of course!
Well, a difficult choise. This is an individual matter. I always want to speak English in correct form not in “mine, Nadia’s, anyhow form” and this requires competence. Competence gives a linguistic confidence, for me.
I think I am more confident than competent
I am confidet ,that l will be a fluent english speaker.
I would rather be a good English speaker
Confident
Hy
I think it takes a little bit of both.
First confident
