Yesterday I asked you a question:
Which job applicant would you want to interview?
Applicant one: “I find greater confidence in my written English due to the consistent composition of academically rigorous papers, while acknowledging the need for further refinement in my spoken proficiency.”
Applicant two: “English? Learned the basics in school here in Tbilisi, but movies were the real deal for me. They taught me the language and a whole lot more.”
Most of you chose #2.
Me, too!
I’ve got a few reasons.
But the biggest reason is, when I read the email from applicant one, I was thinking, “What’s this person hiding?”
In work, in life, trust is HUGE.
We all need to know, who can I trust?
If the writing is fake, is the person also fake?
And can you trust a fake person?
I’d rather not.
So be yourself, write like you speak, and have a great weekend!
Hi ! Ryan
You right !
Have a great weekend !
Thanks! You, too.
Even though I am able to understand what the first applicant means, it’s almost ridiculous trying to impress someone so much
Yeah! You are right!
Be Yourself!
“Either you behave as you speak, or you speak as you behave! “!!👍👍 (original Romanian proverb)
Thanks Mr. Vig ! Have a good time!!
A great weekend for you too
The two “intros” takes us into two worlds. The second is definitely more friendly and honest than the first. And I think good entrance to a world of an easy minority.
Not that he’s hiding something, the second applicant, but it is a sort.of style, a metaphor or an irony this way to write with ” precious ” words; I saw many of them in the last time writing on different pages.I think he is a kind of 😉 tricker, not a serious applicant.
It s convinient to write as we speak but I think it is respectable to use formal language when we communicate with people we don t know
I think the 2nd one sounds more honest. That’s always the point. Everyone could write a lot….., but makes that sense? How can we prove that? And the more they write the more is fake….mostly…. The best is always a face to face communication with the person.
Applicant one has no problems with English because he “written English due to the consistent composition of academically rigorous papers”. He doesn’t feel the need to speak so I can’t and don’t want to interview such person.
Applicant two would be an attractive conversationalist. (If your English is good, of course)
Yeah! You are right! A great weekend for you too.
