What’s more fun than the dentist?
The post office!
Yesterday, I went to my local post office in Prague.
I’ve never seen this in the States, but in Prague they sell books and toys and other things at the post office.
Here are some butterfly stickers for sale:
In English, you can call this “decor.” That’s similar to “decoration.”
But when I looked closer, I saw something strange.
Can you read it?
It says, “Doom Decor.”
If you don’t know the word “doom,” well, it’s not exactly positive.
For example, if you want to talk about the end of the world you can say “doomsday.”
If you want to say, “We’re all going to die!” you can say, “We’re doomed!”
So what’s are they not telling us about those butterflies?
It’s a nice way to say goodbye to the world. At first decorate your walls and then die
Ha!
Exactly. You don’t want to die in an undecorated house, how would you feel ?!
Because of their somber colours or poisonous larvas. 😃But in fact I don’t know the butterflies and moth well.
it is just a misspelling 🙂 “doom” in czech can be written and pronounced as “dům” (yes it is a “u” with a circle above 🙂 and that means a “house” … so it is a house decoration 🙂
Or if it came from China, a misspelling of “room”, perhaps?
I think it was a stuff to buy for those who want to send it to a person that they want to make a joke 😃 for the first of April! Butterfly is a complex symbol and you can catch your mind making some weird ideas about…
You mean like woodoo puppets?
Hmm…one has to be careful…
Oh my good, just a simple joke for the first of April day; we have something like this in Romania, many jokes are made for this special day.In French you say it “poisson d’Avril”
Wow, it’s stunning!
Butterflies are doomed. You read it in the news every summer. Less of them
The butterflies will also die once
Beautiful butterflies, like real ones. I don´t think it´s a bad word, maybe it´s something beautiful in Czech. Anyway, without this lesson I probably wouldn´t have learned the word “doomsday” until doomsday…
I think there is plenty of time to find out about doomsday until doomsday comes
I played a computer’s game called “DOOM” when i was 15 y.old , and i didn’t know the meaning of that word but the game was very scary: dark caves and hideous monsters with a background music worty of an horror movie
Thanks for this new information. If you can’t understand “doom butterflies”, I can’t understand. I have no idea.
Well I think it means in this case: “not real”
I think it’s real butterflies mummified.
Hi, it is the same in Slovakia. They also sell toys, school suplies, books and even showergel too. In except to checks, letters, postcards and lotteries they want to make profit from this too. Business, profit everywhere…It horrible.
I think tha it refers to the fact that it is necessary to kill butterflies to make them decorative.
Hi Ryan,
I think it’s a misspelling of “room”
