Hello from the beach!
I flew to Asia last week to attend a top-secret conference.
But I want to tell you about it.
So you can’t tell anyone.
Ok?
“Business Or Pleasure?”
That’s what they ask me sometimes at the border.
This time, I’m traveling for both.
First, it was business.
Now, it’s pleasure.
I spent four days talking with other business owners in Bangkok.
They were from France, Germany, Taiwan, Japan, India, Holland, Lithuania, Slovenia… all over!
And, of course, the language we all had in common, and the language they use for business, was English.
If they didn’t speak English, they might not even be business owners.
Business is hard, and it surely must be harder without English.
What about you?
What’s your story with English and business?
Do you use English at work?
Do you own a business or want to own a business?
Do you want a better job?
And will better English get you there faster?
Tell me in the comments below and we’ll continue this conversation tomorrow.
maybe not entirely on topic, but quoting Wikipedia: “Holland is a region within the Netherlands that consists of the two provinces of North and South Holland”. The official name of this country is Netherlands 😜
I am retired so I do not need English language for work at all, but I am very eager to keep up improving the language for pleasure: reading, listening, watching programs on TV in English,
communicating while traveling abroad or meeting people from different countries.
Yes
Yes. I need speak english.
I’m retired, so I don’t need English for work. However, I want to learn to speak English fluently.

I have an interesting story about my English learning. I am here for one year, starting in October 2023. And all this year, I had more and more possibilities to use English in my work. Last month, I had 3 Business trips, which increased my English confidence. After the first trip and waking up in the morning, my brain was full of job ideas in English! I was surprised by it because it happened for the first time. After a few days I was on my second Business trip, and it was also the same. This period was not only a big step in my English confidence, but in my personal confidence too!
Cool! Do you think you had more possibilities to use English at work because your English was improving and you were given more opportunities?
Yes, absolutely! But I think if you allow new things to happen in your life, they happen and life gives you opportunities. I was afraid to speak English a year ago. Now I am no longer afraid of my English and the many mistakes. Nobody is perfect. 😉
Hi!
Nice to hear that you are traveling again…and… educate yourself.. and… Vitamin is back.Great!
It seems the time for me to do business is over. So English now – pleasure of course. I just need it for my joy.
Enjoy the sun and the beach!

Hello everyone
Hi everyone
I’m so Sorry to speak french.
I said that now more than ever, I need to speak English freely in my work. Our partners are British and people from other English-speaking countries. Exchanges would be very difficult, if not almost impossible, without English.
I started to learn English at the begining of 2000, because I’ve worked for a German company. I could speak German, that’s why I’ve chosen a German company, but the official language was English there. Interestingly the German managers talked to each other also in English. Long long time I spoke the so called German business English.
I use English in my job. I’m Financial Director (CFO).
We organize Meetings with Our Foreign Suppliers . So I should use my English effectively and fluently.
My language is very powerful, beautiful and has a long history. I love my language.
The opportunity for people from all over the world to speak, understand each other and develop by means of a common language is also very powerful and beautiful.
Therefore (despite my 150 years 🫢) I learn with pleasure and try to incorporate the English language into my life.
