On the road again
Goin’ places that I’ve never been
Seein’ things that I may never see again
And I can’t wait to get on the road again
On The Road Again
lyrics by Willie Nelson
I did it!
I finally managed to leave Bansko.
Six months ago, I arrived on a cold and snowy evening in February.
For three months, I skied, I worked, and I met other digital nomads who had also made Bansko their temporary home.
Then on a Friday in April, I broke my leg skiing in the rain.
An ambulance took me to a hospital in Sofia.
I had an operation.
And after a week, when it was still a big deal just to get out of bed,(translation: very difficult) I decided travelling by myself to the airport was out of the question. (translation: impossible)
So I return to Bansko to take it easy, rest and heal.
Bansko is a ski town and spring is the slow season.
If fact, it’s so slow, many shops and restaurants close their doors and wait for the tourists to return in the winter.
For three months, life was quiet and life was easy.
My apartment was on the top floor of an empty hotel on the edge of town.
Outside my windows were mountains, sheep and horses.
Food was delivered to my door.
The kitchen table was next to the stove which meant I could cook sitting down.
A taxi took me to my co-working place when I felt like seeing people.
And later, as I got better, I could walk with my crutches to another empty hotel where I could swim in an empty pool.
Life was good.
I can recommend Bansko in the spring and summer if what you seek is peace and quiet and beauty.
But now, I’m on the road again…
❤️
Very nice story! I love Bansko too, in summer! But Bansko is Bansko all the time! 🙂
GOOD LUCK !!
So amazing story.. feels a little sadness.. But so interesting what’s next…🤔☺️
Good luck!
Waiting tomorrow’s story😊
Thank you for your story!
Good night!
Good luck!
Where are you going to? You are on the road….I invite you in Slovenia ,a green land under mountains Alpe, such amaizing, sunshine country !
Slovenia is lovely. Thanks for the invite, but this summer I’m going in a different direction….
Happy for you Ryan. Have a nice time on the other place. Looking forward for “more tomorrow…”
I think that your time in Bansko shows the bitter-sweet side of life: the lovely things go together with the sad ones, the joy goes together with pain, etc., etc. It’s so nice to leave behind all crutches and obstacles because the feelings to be free and healthy are priceless. “On the road again…” is a wonderful metaphor. Good luck, care, and love!
old fashioned crutches
Hi Ryan.
You’re on the road again….. for where?
Good luck!
You’ll see!
your story is as painful as it is beautiful, I wish you health and, take care of your feet☺️, I wish we get through this hot summer as soon as possible (here, the thermometer reached 45 degrees 😔 that we don’t know how long it will last..) and professor you can find, I believe, a warmer place.

Good evening An amazing story, very touching.
Iam glad you got better and left your crutchers.
I love half-empty hotels. It’s very romantic, of course, if you are healthy and don’t have a broken leg. I wish you full recovery and new travels.
Really you feel quiet and beauty but I dont like to waste my time on summer in a place with mountains, sheeps and horses because I will feel depress
