This week we’re searching for the keystone of English mastery.
What is the most important thing… the critical ingredient… the one tool in your belt that if you removed it, success with English would not be possible?
Is it intelligence?
I say, No.
I’ve had plenty of very smart students who did not improve quickly.
And I’ve met loads of not-as-clever people who didn’t need my lessons.
In fact, for some people, intelligence can be a negative, because they tend to over-think sentence when just opening their mouth and talking would be the better solution.
Dr. Paul Pimsleur in his book “How To Learn A Foreign Language writes “only about 16 percent of what it takes to learn a foreign language is attributable to intelligence.”
And finally, remember Forest Gump?
He spoke English.
A little slow, but just fine.
So if Forest can learn English with only half a brain, surely IQ is not the keystone.
I always take courage after reading these letters!
Hi Mr Vig I’m expecting your advice about speaking english like a native speaker
Use Mr. Vig’s advice: try and do, try again and do again!
You are right. As i told last time, the secret of learning English,is speaking day by day, everyday ,with native people if is possible..
The habit of being inside the dialog
I want to speak better, but if I make mistakes, it’s normal and I make new habbits.
Excellent!
Have a great weekend!
You, too!
