A friend just told me this story.
He knows a guy who needs better English.
“That would fix all my problems,” said his friend.
Then my friend told his friend about me.
“He’s got a new method. It’s very different.”
“Sounds interesting. But does he speak Romanian?”
“No, he only teaches in English.”
“Oh, you can learn English in English.”
What do you think?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of learning English in English?

And tomorrow I’ll tell you my opinion.
Plus, I’ll tell you about my first experience learning French in French.
Hi! For me is more difficile if the theacher is native speaker, because he cannot fully understand the difficulties that are encountered
When I started teaching English back in 1989 we used to have some translation from Catalan to English but then we didn’t do that anymore. I teach English in English, I’ve been doing it for more than 20 years and it works. They get great marks in the university entry exam. I’m proud of it. It takes a lot of time to prepare classes but the results are worth the effort.
I believe that´s possible, if first simply words and language structures are used.
Let’s just say that I am a French native and I am passionate about the English language. I buy an English language course which I finish but I am not satisfied enough with the level I have reached. But I realize that in the same application there is also a French language course for native English speakers. I enroll in the French language course from the English language and I notice that my vocabulary is improving as well as my grammar.
Can this be a method? I don’t know, but for me, it had an effect.
Yes, you can learn English IN English it requires more effort from the teacher and the creativity of teaching methods. My daughter at the age of 5 started learning English in Berlitz School only by native speakers now she speaks like native and in the same way she learned other languages now she fluently speaks,of course, Polish, French, Spanish, Ukrainian and Italian.
I think that it depends on the level of L2. I remember one of Michael Swan’s (a writer of English language teaching and reference materials) lecture when he was talking about his son’s first experience with French – after that, Michael asked his son what he had learnt and he answered that a tie is called jacques in French because the teacher was pointing to his tie while saying “Je suis Jacques” (I’m Jacques).
I think that it is almost necessary to use L1 during beginners’ lesson but later on L2 can be explained in L2 and it is beneficial in many ways.
Yes, you can learn English IN English, maybe at the start learning is slower, it is more difficult to understand each other but later the progress is significantly faster and more effective. I would recommend the method as the most valuable method of language learning.
I consider learning English in English could be very effective approach in making significant progress. I have very positive impression with using the same method about Learning Greek in Greek. It was one week very positive experience in context with educational project for cross border cooperation.
from the beginning it can be difficult to learn English in English but how I know it works very well
In my point of view, learn English in English is a great way to help someone with different mother language become fluent in English because it help the student to have the mentality to think in English rapidly and automatically become fluent. Therefore, when we learn English with our mother language, we face many difficulties to became fluent. That’s why the people have many facilities to learn English in one country that have English as official language.
It depends on the teacher – how correct and slow they pronounce each word and expression; how devoted they are – they may show everything using body language. There are more benefits than drawbacks.
I think it depends on the age and on the level of English you know. My grandchildren have been learning English in English and French in French and it really works. But for adults and elderly people without basic English it could be difficult enough.
Yes, I agree with Zdenka. In addition, it’s necessary to go to English in English as fast as you can. Cause you will stay on the start level for a long time. Especially if we talk about speaking and listening.
