Greetings from a cold and snowy America!
Well, at least it’s cold and snow where I am.
Maybe the English teachers on Miami Beach are complaining about the sun today…
AND THE QUESTION OF THE DAY IS…
Which sounds better to you:
- “Take off your clothes, the doctor will be with you in a moment.”
- “Take off your clothes, your friends will be with you in a moment.”
Hmm.
Think about it.
I’ll get back to that in a second.
First, you need to know a word.
AND THE WORD OF THE DAY IS…
“Vulnerable.”
When you’re vulnerable you’re exposed, in the open, not protected.
Think of the soldier inside the castle walls and the soldier outside the castle walls.
The soldier inside is protected.
He’s surrounded by fifty feet of stone.
But the soldier outside is vulnerable.
The enemy can fire their arrows and there’s nowhere to hide.
Kind of like being naked.
And kind of like…. speaking English?
THE SOLUTION FOR FEELING VULNERABLE
School of Speaking member Helena writes: “I’m too shy to speak.”
This is so common.
And I understand.
For years, your teachers publicly punished your for making mistakes.
The law of the jungle is, “Eat or be eaten.”
The law of the English classroom is, “Be perfect or be punished.”
And now you fear mistakes.
But one day, you’ve got to start speaking, right?
Every eagle way up there in the sky was once a baby eagle in his comfortable nest who had to jump out of the tree for the first time.
One way or the other, if you’re going to reach your goal of speaking English comfortably and easily, you’re going to feel vulnerable.
But thanks to your fearless teacher from cold and snowy Virginia, now you’ve got options…
YOUR TWO OPTIONS
Option A: Get naked with a pro*
This is the teacher option. Some students would rather make their mistakes in front of only one person, even if that person is a native speaker and a stranger.
If that’s you, I can recommend my site Teacher Creature.
You can meet your teacher online every week and get comfortable speaking with a friendly, patient, slow-talking native speaker.
Option B: Get naked with your friends
This is the chat room option. Some students would rather meet with other students online and practice speaking without a native speaker.
If that’s you, I can recommend my program, School of Speaking.
Which do you prefer?
Well, there is no correct answer.
Both are good for practicing.
The important thing is, get naked… feel vulnerable…. start speaking… and let’s all move to Miami Beach.
Sound good?
