Bob is the big boss in an international company.
Monday morning is the worst part of his week.
Because that’s when he turns on his computer and sees…
“254 emails!”
Slowly he starts to open and read.
The first is from Andy in accounting.
“At this present time, it is the consensus of the ad hoc actuary committee that optimizing human capital should be our primary objective in order to optimize revenue events going forward.”
Bob stops reading.
There are four more paragraphs like that one.
He decides to go on to the next email.
Cindy from sales wrote:
Hi Bob,
I just wanted to shoot you a quick email to follow up on our conversation last week.
I agree with what you said, but wanted to clarify a few things…
You said we should hire more sales reps. Did you have a time frame in mind? I was thinking mid Q3. Or Q4 if we need more time? And the pay scale? Did you think about that?
I was also thinking, we should touch base with the team in Dubai. Get their input. Do you know the team leader there? I could set it up. There’s also the guys in Atlanta and Veronika in our Bratislava office. You know what they say about synergy…
And finally, I was just re-reading the email you sent last Tuesday, the 12th (I think). Couldn’t agree more! Do you want me to get started on that as well? The only thing is, I think I would need HR to sign off on it first…
Let me know your thought,Cindy
Bob reaches the bottom of the email and scratches his head.
“What does she want?”
He has to start over and re-read it from the beginning.
Next he opens an email from Ivan.
Dear Mr. Bob,
Greetings to you, sire.
I must have to inform you regretably that I will not being able to be attend the tomorrow’s meeting.
Yours sincerely and truthfully,Ivan
“Wow” is Bob’s first reaction. “Is this why our computer code has so many bugs…?”
Bob can feel the beginning of a headache forming behind his left eye.
“Is it too early for my fist martini…?”

What do you think?
What are the email mistakes that Bob’s employees make? How can they fix them? And do you make the same mistakes?
