There are two types of motivation.
Push and pull.
When you’re a kid and it’s Sunday night and instead of playing with your friends outside you’re studying for the big algebra test you have in the morning, that’s push.
When you want to study for your algebra test because you love algebra, that’s pull.
(And the English word for a kid who loves studying algebra on a Sunday night is “nerd.”)
Which one is better for your English?
Well, if you’re still in school, or thinking about joining the Mormons (you’ll save a lot of money not having to buy all those grande lattes at Starbucks), then push is just fine.
But if you’re an adult, and no one cares and no one will know if you improve your English tonight, then you just have one choice.
Discipline will eventually fail.
Willpower will run out.
Focus is limited.
So your only hope is to develop a solid pull strategy.
I’ve got some ideas for you…
Sometimes is pushing and sometimes is pulling ,it depends of the daily tasks.
Thanks, I’m waiting…
Nerd? Maybe. I already feel like an English nerd, but I love it. Thanks to Mr. Vig`s videos and evening motivational emails.
Ha! Well, nerds are now cool.
How are your ideas,Mr Vig ?push or pull learning English?
Thank you for very good description of motivation.
