This is going to sound incredible.
I don’t know if you’ll believe me.
All I can tell you is I’ve heard it with my own ears.
And not just once.
But many, many times.
Understand today’s lesson, and you can begin to become a confident English speaker.
Back Where It All Started
“Ahoj” from Prague!
(That’s how the Czechs say “hello.”)
I’m back in the city where it all started from me.
In 2004 I moved to Prague to take a teaching course.
My plan was to stay for a month and see if I liked the city.
One month turned into 14 years.
I think I like Prague.
FEAR FACT #3
On Wednesday I told you that a fear of speaking English is common, and therefore you shouldn’t think you’re the only one.
On Thursday I told you that fear starts in your head; before it’s an emotion it’s a thought.
And today I want to give you the most important lesson…
But first, story time!
Many years ago I had a student named Jan.
When I first met Jan he made mistakes and was afraid to speak.
Several years later, he made fewer mistakes but was still afraid to speak.
When you have the belief, “I will feel confident when I’m better” you never feel confident because it’s always possible to get better.
It’s like chasing the horizon.
You never arrive.
Instead, get better and better every day.
And choose to feel relaxed, normal and confident – right now!
