“If you have 99 New Year resolutions you have zero resolutions.”
-Tim Ferris on The Tim Ferris Show, episode 717
I saw a woman at the gym today lifting a dumbell while watching a video on her phone.
Last weekend, a students asked me if it’s possible to learn English and another language at the same time.
Even your fearless teacher gets distracted by shiny objects.
For all my readers who would like to accomplish more, here’s what I do and tell my students to do:
1. Ask: What’s my priority?
2. Write it down.
3. Tell people.
4. Focus on it every morning before you do anything else.
Yes, exactly. I think the emphasis is “focus on” because there isn’t accomplishing the goal without focusing on it.
Hi Ryan,
You compared a lack of focus when we learn something with a woman lifting a dumbell, good comparison!
A lack of focus is known, like you already said as a ” shiny things sindrom”, that means we are attract over and over to other things without realising our previous goals, we are distracted with the other words.
I agree for this statement! However, exceptions only prove the rules.
Thanks Ryan for the reminder these 4 points. On my “to do” list there is 9 huge points (with a jillion sub points). First knowledge: ask for help. I´m greatful for your advises. Time to throw away shiny objects. Time to bring to bear rule from SSS “day one”.
Ha-ha )) Using phone is considered background activity (not distraction) today ))
May I place a 18+ illustration here? 😉
Sure!
Awareness is important. Awareness of oneself and the importance of the moment.
Hi, Mr Vig! I think, the multitasking, what the women take at the gym, is a strong characteristic for our today. Your 1-4. advice can be good technic for as the multitasking pressure from our era to let/leave, if you systematically take it. Thanks.
I’m going to share something that I do too. It can be added as point 5 to those already mentioned in the email.
5. Every morning after giving your priority the attention it needs, don’t forget to reward yourself for PERSISTENCY!
Sounds good!
focus, priority….and everything is soo easier
About the student question😊…I liked the question and I really think that the diversity of tasks could produce progress I.e it is very possible to learn another language while learning English.👍✅️
Priority and focus – excellent advice! Lack of them or inability to use them spoils all good intensions.
I agree, everyone has more than one accomplishment to pursuit in daily life but we can’t be productive if we don’t choose priorities and follow routines. If we do so time becomes an ally.
By the way, I couldn’t join today’s meeting because I had tò assist my mother.
Women are multitasking
