I’ve quit many things.
I don’t like to admit it.
But it’s the truth.
Sculpting…
Filmmaking…
Muay Thai kickboxing…
Being at home these past few months, I’m constantly being reminded of this.
Digging around in the attic one day, I found my old boxing shorts… my old films… an old sculpture…
But at least I’m not alone.
My first year as a teacher I saw that my classrooms were full the first day and almost empty the last day.
My friends who had already been teaching for years said that was normal.
Students start and stop.
Quit and begin.
Again and again.
Year after year.
Never really making progress.
Never reaching their dreams.
But there is a solution.
Three, actually.
When researchers gave these psychological tools to people who wanted to exercise but kept quitting, amazing things happened.
Namely, they stopped quitting.
