9:45 p.m.
Bucharest airport.
My Uber driver asks me where I’m from (in English).
I ask him how to say “hello” and “thank you” in Romanian.
Two days later.
Another driver.
A hot afternoon in traffic.
And this guy is lost and not happy.
He turns to me for help.
His Romanian reminds me of Mr. Duffy, my sixth grade Latin teacher, when he found I had I hadn’t done the translation homework.
I just smile and remind the driver, in case he forgot, “English?”
The foreign words continue.
Finally, we arrive.
He looks at the building.
I look at the building.
And now I hear his first English word…
“Ok?” he asks.
“Ok.” I reply.
Ich liebe ihre kurzweiligen Lektionen, ich verstehe alles, die machen mich glücklich.
Und ich sage mir, vielleicht kann ich doch Englisch. 😊
Huh?
welcome to Romaniaaaa!
OK😀
Hi Ryan,
If I had known you would come to Romania, I would have suggested Cluj-Napoca.

राम्रो कथा. धन्यवाद. Ok? 🙂
My conclusion of this situation is YOU, with your attractive method and talented English teaching, surely have a significant mission in Eastern Europe and South-Eastern Europe to bring people into the world of English and to make them literate in English. Keep do it! ☀️
Ok, is a verry common word also in slovenian language
Welcom to Romania!Maybe the driver doesn t speak English well, and feels awkward.I know someone else….
Hello, I’m glad that you visited Romania my beautiful country.
Your story moved me at the part where you said that listening the taxi driver speaking Roumanian reminded you the Latin who learned at school and I’m proud of my Latin origin.
I was born in Romania in 1963. When I was 23 years old I came to Germany.
In Romania I learned a bit of English at school.
English was a minor subject at school.
Hi Mr.Vig.
Aren´t there even three words that everyone knows? Ok and Yes and No.
Arrived successfully?

You mentioned Latin,I also learned it at school of medicine many years ago. I’m sure this knowledge helps a lot to learning English because there are common roots in both languages. About very common word OK I was supposed to know that is means 0 killed
Good morning my dear teacher! And welcome to Romania! I hope you will spend nice days here, with or without the question “English?” Romania is beautiful, its people are kind, hospitable, we have good traditional food, beautiful girls..(.?! ). If I can help you with some information, please write to me. With or without mistakes in English, I will gladly offer them to you. Otherwise, I am still a compulsive student and I am happy about our meeting in this course. I am now trying to evaluate my “dead time ” and fill it with….English!! Let’s hear each other very well!! Flora
Hi,
I know this situation, but sometimes google translate is still a good approach.
Have a nice day and welcome to Romania with beautiful mountains and many places to visit. I was so impressed in 2008 when I visited Romania for first time.
